I remember thinking to myself that in this one single rally, Al Gore had probably put more carbon dioxide into the air and had probably burned more gasoline and oil than I will in my entire life. They had a security detail around the stage that I imagine probably traveled with Al Gore from city to city. I wondered if I had suffered permanent ear damage.) They had thousands of people on their lunch hour or just ditching work. (My ears were ringing for a good hour after I left. They had massive, amplified speakers that could be heard blocks away. For security they had helicopters in the sky above the rally. Traffic was all backed up with hundreds of idling cars and trucks. In the middle of the day the police had streets blocked off for block around the rally. I heard about the rally on the radio news, and I went to the rally out of curiosity and for the experience. I’ll never forget a rally in downtown Chicago that I went to for Al Gore when he was running for President.
